Today is my dad's 60th birthday! I asked him how does it feel being 60 years old and he says it is just one more year closer to retiring! Haha! He is a very hard working man. I can't wait for him to retire. When I was growing up he use to work the graveyard shift and he would only get a few days off a month! He worked so hard to support his family. He is a perfect example of what a husband/father should be like!
When I was single, I use to look for someone that was like my dad. A man that has a good job, that doesn't mind to work hard and someone that will take good care of his wife. I was lucky enough to find a man just like that!
A few childhood memories that I have of my dad -
Seeing him at my softball games. He use to sit on the side of the field in the grass. He would bring his chair and a big bag of sunflower seeds. He would always cheer really loud for me! It use to embarrass me. But now when I think about it, there weren't too many other dads there, cheering on their daughters.
In elementary school, all the kids were jealous when your parents brought you fast food for lunch. I remember my dad bringing me Subway for lunch on my birthdays. Since he worked graveyard shift, he was home by 10am or so, so he would come by and bring me lunch. I remember feeling like the luckiest kid in school!
I gave my dad a handkerchief at our wedding. I had it custom embroidered with this poem -
Daddy,
Your little girl is all grown up and has found a love so true, but a special place in my heart will always belong to you. I love you, Kelly
